Cooling helmet prolongs neuron life
Skolkovo has designed a helmet that prevents the neuron death after brain attacks and head injuries. The device features a cooling effect and reduces the risk of mortality twice: it is proved by the results of tests involving 600 patients suffering from brain attack.
Developers state that it is better to use the cryoprobe helmet within several hours after suffering damages. The decrease of brain temperature within reasonable bounds prevents the death of cells and reduces the level of brain damage.
The device consists of the system of tubes connected to the special cooling block. Tubes are filled with a reagent that reduces the temperature and slows down the neuron activity. The helmet is developed as part of the Cryo-Technomed project.
MTT to build IoT network in Moscow
Multiregional Transit Telecom (MTT) is going to cover the capital of Russia with the IoT network based on LoRaWAN technology. The telecommunication company is planning to deploy a network consisting of 70 base stations. Russian Towers, an independent infrastructure operator, will provide its towers for this purpose.
The covering of Moscow will start in September and ends in December. The LoRaWAN network will grasp central regions and business centers. Only an approximate amount of investments in the project is revealed: at least 10 million RUB. Besides, MTT is going to become an IoT provider for large and medium businesses in Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg, Samara, Kazan, and Ekaterinburg.
Drone for zero visibility operations
Shvabe Holding has developed a quadcopter able to monitor location even under zero visibility conditions. Developers have equipped the drone with special optics that functions within the ultraviolet and short-wave range of the infrared spectrum and can “see” in a fog, smoke, or snowstorm. The device is small and easy-to-handle. The signal is transferred at a distance of 10 km. The drone can operate within an hour without charging. When the connection is lost, it returns to the base.
The company informs that the new solution is designed for monitoring under the conditions where it is difficult for people to intervene and assess the situation. The drone is able to detect gas leakage, function at natural calamities, during accidents, as well as discover highway damages.
Amazon to integrate its voice assistant into cars
Amazon has designed special software to integrate its voice assistant into cars. Synchronization of the car’s on-board computer with Alexa will allow drivers to know the weather forecast, select the music, and remotely control smart homes. Free tools are already available for download on GitHub. Such companies as Volkswagen, Toyota, Lexus, and BMW have announced their work on the integration of Amazon voice assistant.
System for communication by power of thought to hit the market in winter
Skolkovo’s NeuroChat communication system is fully ready and will enter the market this year. It is designed for people suffering from speech and motor function disorders. The system consists of a headset attached on the head and registers the electrical activity of patient brain. Using Bluetooth, it sends data on a computer that turns impulses into keyboard commands. Therefore, the special algorithm allows people to type the text letter by letter using the power of thought.
The appliance is already used by patients who have difficulties in speaking and moving. In December, it will be available for common people: one will be able to lease or buy NeuroChat for constant use. Its approximate price is 100,000 RUB.
