Case study #1. How Coca-Cola managed to improve service quality and customer loyalty
This brand was the first to apply IoT in its marketing campaigns. It was in 1982 when the company connected one-third of its vending machines to the Internet. It allowed to attract more clients and increase sales.
Currently, smart machines are also used to analyze consumer behavior. They allow companies to obtain information about what beverages are bought more frequently, where goods are running out etc. Thus, finding out that customers have often mixed cherry and vanilla cola, the company has produced a new product with corresponding taste.
Coca-Cola also used the Internet of Things to create client loyalty programs. It developed the application registering all brand goods purchases as special scores. Collecting a sufficient amount of these scores, consumers obtain an opportunity to get a drink for free.
Currently, the brand is going to implement the system, allowing students to pay for cola using their student’s cards.
Case study #2. How Compology managed to reduce waste disposal costs
Compology focuses on waste disposal in San Francisco. To improve the efficiency of its work, the company has developed an interesting technology called WasteOS. Using sensors, the system analyzes the level of trash container fullness. Position data of those requiring immediate purge are sent to sanitation engineers’ tablets along with recommendations regarding the best possible route.
WasteOS helped to improve significantly the quality of company service as well as to reduce related costs by 40%.
Case study #3. How Rio Tinto saves 2 million dollars per day
The main task of this company is to develop mineral deposits. It applies IoT technologies to monitor conditions of its equipment and transport.
Company’s each truck is equipped with the system, consisting of 200 sensors and GPS receiver, radar guidance system, as well as supports remote control. In actual fact, the system performs live broadcasting from the development place in terms of 3D visualization. It allows Rio Tinto staff to obtain data on the extent of planned works and, based on them, develop the schedule of facilities maintenance. Such a solution helps to avoid operation problems and related costs.
