Intel announces the release of 5G modems
Electronics manufacturer Intel announced the development of 5G modems. Standard models are expected to enter the market in 2019. Developers stress that such modems will be able to transfer gigabytes of information in a matter of seconds.
The turnover of 5G networks is predicted to reach trillions of dollars, catering for connected and unmanned transport, and replacing common cable modems at homes. Right now, the first stage of work is underway – the creation of chips that can process complex radio signals.
Intel senior vice president Sandra Rivera said that existing wireless networks were the equivalent of data going down a single-lane highway, whereas 5G networks would become multi-lane superhighways for data.
